DSCTA co-hosts "Performance and the Environment" Student Exchange and Conference

Performance and the Environment is an international conference jointly hosted by LASALLE College of the Arts, University of the Arts Singapore, The National University of Theatre and Film I.L Caragiale (Romania), and UP Diliman.

Serquiña assumes UPD DSCTA chairpersonship starting 1 August

Associate Professor Oscar T. Serquiña, Jr. is set to begin his role as full-time chair of UP Diliman’s Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts (DSCTA) on 1 August 2024. His three-year term ends on 31 July 2027. Serquiña had previously served in a holdover capacity before assuming the post.

In celebration of its 65th founding anniversary, the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts (DSCTA) is launching a lineup of academic and extracurricular activities from February to July this year to revisit its traditions, consolidate its achievements, and chart its various possibilities. With the theme “Honoring the Past, Reckoning with the Present, Priming the Future,” this commemorative event includes a retirement lecture, roundtable discussions, the launching of online videos, the restaging of a theatre production, the revival of an extramural program, and an academic conference, to name a few.

DSCTA Staff Archie Clataro is 2022 Natatanging Kawani

DSCTA Staff Archie C. Clataro has been awarded with the University of the Philippines Diliman's 2022 Gawad Tsanselor sa Natatanging Kawani. This award recognizes the exemplary performance and dedication to service of outstanding administrative personnel in the attainment of academic and professional excellence. Mr. Clataro has served as an Administrative Assistant for the Department for 12 years, primarily as production staff and marketing manager of the Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, the premier academic theatre organization in the country.

DSCTA Chair is National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) 2021 Achievement Awardee for Humanities

The Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts is proud to announce that our chairperson, Dr. Sir Anril P. Tiatco, was chosen as one of the Achievement Awardees by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) for 2021.
The NRCP Achievement Award is given annually in recognition of the members' outstanding contribution in the fields of natural sciences, health sciences, engineering, industry, social sciences, humanities or other human endeavors.

DSCTA Faculty is KRITIKA Fellow

DSCTA faculty and Department Coordinator for Administration Rex Sandro M. Nepomuceno has been selected as a fellow in the 10th KRITIKA La Salle National Workshop on Art and Cultural Criticism. Set to run from February 7 to March 1, 2022, KRITIKA fellows this year will assess the landscape of arts and cultural productions during and about the COVID19 pandemic, including the successes and remissions of what went right and wrong in the art and cultural works and spaces, institutions, personalities, creative and critical processes.
